Open Studio Settings even before creating a project. Enter the current password and enable the authenticator. Import the shown TOTP URI into an authenticator application, save the one-time recovery codes in a password manager and verify a code. The seed is shown during enrollment and never logged.
Production defaults to QB_REQUIRE_ADMIN_MFA=true. Owner and administrator writes require enrollment. Viewer access does not disclose secrets. Application user authentication is a separate branch realm.
After password verification, Studio shows the authenticator challenge. A password-only response does not contain an authenticated platform session. Enter a valid TOTP code to complete login. The Better Auth plugin applies attempt limits and locks repeated failed challenges.
Enrollment verification rotates the active session. Management tokens are revoked when enrolling; issue new project-scoped tokens after completing MFA. Keep recovery codes outside the data volume.
Use Better Auth's authenticated backup-code verification endpoint /platform/auth/two-factor/verify-backup-code when your authenticator is lost. Treat a recovery code like a password. An operator should revoke compromised management tokens and application sessions, rotate project keys and provider secrets, then examine audit events.
Never change the database's MFA columns to bypass a lost factor. Restore the protected control-plane backup only through an operator-reviewed recovery process.
Studio account settings also enroll, list, rename and delete platform passkeys. Its sign-in page offers Sign in with passkey. This does not turn off QB_REQUIRE_ADMIN_MFA or replace its TOTP enrollment requirement. Keep a usable recovery method and test the configured Studio RP hostname/origins. See passkeys and application MFA.
